What the service is
Chess Endgame Training is free software (GPL-3.0) published by a developer known as "supertorpe" on GitHub and "jlomo" on Google Play; no real name or country is documented. The README (https://github.com/supertorpe/chessendgametraining) only states that the project was carried out as the final project of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering at UNIR. The repository was created on 22 March 2019, the day of the first alpha release; version 3.0.0, rewritten from scratch, dates from 7 May 2024 (https://github.com/supertorpe/chessendgametraining/releases) and the latest commit (v3.0.30) from 28 July 2026. The app, available as a PWA (https://chess-endgame-trainer.mooo.com) and on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.supertorpe.chessendgametraining), offers a catalogue of theoretical endgames to play against Syzygy tablebases (up to 7 pieces) or Stockfish 16 NNUE, with a personal record per position, mate and draw challenges for both sides, a manual mode to explore other lines, FEN/PGN copy, board image capture, a button to open the position on Lichess, and Google Drive backup; the interface comes in English, Spanish and Russian. The Google Play listing advertises 3,384 positions in 8 categories and 129 subcategories, over 100,000 installs and 4.2/5 from 1,650 reviews. Business model: entirely free, with no account and no payment. It neither imports nor analyses the player’s games, covers no tactics, openings or courses, and offers no play against humans.
