What the service is

BetterChess (betterchess.co) is an AI chess coach that speaks out loud while the player faces bots: it interrupts before a blunder and explains the better move in plain English, with every call checked against Stockfish. The publisher is not identified: the terms of service and the privacy policy (last updated 3 June 2026) leave the "[LEGAL ENTITY NAME]" field blank, yet place the contract under the laws of the State of Israel and the courts of Tel Aviv; no launch date is published. The service includes a personal weakness model, targeted puzzles scheduled with spaced repetition, a daily puzzle, an openings trainer, more than 50 annotated famous games that can be replayed without an account, and a free review of one game from a PGN or a Chess.com/Lichess username. The privacy policy names Anthropic (explanations), ElevenLabs (voice), Vercel, Supabase and Lemon Squeezy. On pricing, the pages read on 1 September 2026 show BetterChess Pro at $5.99 a month with no free trial and no refund, whereas the comparison grid had recorded $19.99 a month or $129 a year with a 7-day trial; the club offer is now $99 a month for 25 seats. BetterChess does not import the player’s full game history, offers no courses, no play against humans and no mobile app, and exists in English only.
