Carlsen, M. – Karjakin, Sergey
2882 2019 · Stalemate — draw
English Opening turning into a queen’s-pawn structure, 2019: Carlsen (2882) against Karjakin (2750). Black equalises early with ...dxc4 and ...c5, the queens come off, and the game becomes pure technique. The engine flags no turning point at all: 100% at least "good" moves for both sides, with 23 best moves for White and 22 for Black. The rooks trade off, the knights vanish after 37...Nxf5+ and 38.Nxf5, and the black king walks up to h3 while the a- and b-pawns liquidate. After 47.axb3 the position is stalemate: ½-½. The club lesson: a game can be played without a mistake and still be split — accuracy does not create a win, it only denies the opponent’s error.
