Carlsen, Magnus – Tomashevsky, Evgeny
2835 2012 · Draw
English Opening, 2012: Carlsen (2835) against Tomashevsky (2738), a game in which the engine flags no turning point at all. Both sides build slowly — 4.g3, 9.d3, 10.Bb2 for White, a solid symmetrical setup for Black — the queens come off, and what remains is bishop against knight with pawns on both wings. White 97% at least good moves, Black 98%: neither player hands over anything, even as the kings march (White’s reaching a7 and grabbing on a6 while Black’s h-pawn runs). The final repetition seals the split point. The lesson: a draw can be a technical achievement — eighty-plus moves without one exploitable slip.
