2729 2022 · White wins (resignation, time or agreement)

Symmetrical English, 2022: Andreikin (2729) against Grischuk (2742). Queens leave the board on move 13 and the game turns into a rook-and-bishop grind where both sides hold 82% of moves at "good" or better. The turning point is 26...Re6, a missed chance that swings the evaluation from −1.6 to −4.3 in White’s favour. The answer is quick but flawed: 27.Ne1 gives much of it back, from +4.3 to +1.5. Grischuk still holds the bishop endgame until 56...Kh7, which collapses from −0.9 to −15.0, and 57.h5 settles it. The takeaway: in such endings one misplaced king move decides everything.
