← Grünfeld Defense
Grischuk, A.. – Nepomniachtchi, I..
2776 2021 · Black wins (resignation, time or agreement)
A Grünfeld from 2021: Grischuk (2776) against Nepomniachtchi (2792). White pushed d5 and ran the pawn to d7, but after the exchanges on d2 and e2 Black’s queen collected on g2 and f3 and the white king was chased all the way to a5. From there the game turned into a trade of missed chances: 48...Kh7 let the balance slip, moving the evaluation from 0.0 to +2.4, and 49.Qc4 handed it straight back, from -2.4 to 0.0. One more swing came with 57.Re1, from +0.9 to +5.5, again unused. Accuracy was 77% for White and 90% for Black, and Black won. The takeaway: with an exposed king in a queen ending, single moves decide everything.
