In 2011, Saidov (2365) tried the Englund Gambit against Kvon (2459): 1.d4 e5, the pawn is taken, and Black plays for quick piece activity as compensation. Things stayed surprisingly balanced into the middlegame, with the evaluation hovering near equality. Then came the break: 18...f5 swung the assessment from -0.1 to -4.6, and Black never recovered. The slide continued with 34...Kf7, from -7.3 to -15.0. White finished with 94% of moves rated good or better, Black 91% — both sides played accurately overall, which is exactly the point: in a tense position, one poorly chosen move costs more than twenty correct ones earn.
