Réti Opening, 2024: Maghsoodloo (2715) against Vidit (2747). After 1.Nf3 d5 2.g3 Nf6 3.Bg2, White fianchettoes, Black pushes d4, and the game settles into a long central tension with rooks stacked on the e-file. The turning point comes in a burst: 26...Nf6 lets a chance slip, the evaluation moving from +0.5 to -1.9, and 27...h6 widens the gap from -2.0 to -4.1. White gives some of it back with 28.Re4, from +4.1 to +2.5, but 28...Nxe4 swings it again from -2.5 to -4.0. Accuracy was 78% for White and 81% for Black, and the game ended 1-0. The lesson: in tight positions, two lukewarm moves in a row cost more than any opening prep can repay.
