2708 2013 · Draw

A 2013 Benko Gambit: Riazantsev (2708) against Prizant (2515), the familiar deal where Black returns the pawn for open files. After the wholesale trades on c3 the game becomes a rook contest, and Black holds the edge into move thirty. Then it swings twice in a row: 30.h5 moves the evaluation from −0.8 to +1.0, and 30...g5 pushes it from −1.0 to +0.6 — each side handing back what it had just won. Black regained the thread, but 36.Rg3 wiped the slate clean, from −1.5 to 0.0, and repetition sealed the draw. Accuracy: White 85%, Black 90%. The club lesson: in sharp positions, one loose move can erase everything you built.
