Bird’s Opening

Cherniaev, AlexanderKhismatullin, Denis

2447 2013 · Black wins (resignation, time or agreement)

A Bird’s Opening from the first exchange: Cherniaev (2447) meets Khismatullin’s (2658) 1.e4 c5 with 2.f4, and this 2013 game accelerates fast. After 21.Qg4 f6 22.Qxe6+ the queens come off and pieces trade at a brutal pace through 28.g3 Kf7. The turning point is 29.Rfe1: the evaluation swings from +2.8 to -3.6, a missed chance that hands back everything White had built. Black follows with 31...d2 and 32...d1=Q+, and the endgame runs one way only; 45.g4 makes it worse, from -4.3 to -15.0. Accuracy: 80% White, 82% Black. The lesson: one loose move can erase an advantage built over many.
