Chigaev (2483) against Ehlvest (2552), 2014: an Alekhine Defense in which White grabs space with 2.e5 and 4.c5, then spends dozens of moves manoeuvring knights around the centre. Accuracy stays close — 84% for White, 77% for Black — yet the game is settled late. On move 65, 65...Kh8 is a mistake that shifts the evaluation from +6.1 to +7.8. One move later 66...Rc8 throws away the last resource, and the number jumps from +7.8 to +15.0. White’s 67.Bxe5 is itself a missed opportunity, moving the evaluation from -15.0 to -5.4 from White’s side, but the result stands: 1-0. The takeaway: in a lost position, loose moves only speed up the collapse.
