Bird’s Opening, 2021: Stremavicius (2478) plays 1.f4 against Kollars (2621), who answers d5 and builds a solid centre. White sets up the usual g3, Bg2 and castles, then pushes e4 and e5 to claim space. Black simplifies: the knights come off on d5, the bishop on b7 is traded on g2, and after 16...Qd5+ the remaining pieces neutralise each other. The engine flags no turning point — neither side ever lets the evaluation slip. White finished with 78% of moves at least good, Black with 89%, and the draw was agreed. The lesson: once the pieces come off in a symmetrical structure, the game burns out on its own. Don’t force it.
