A classical Catalan from 2007: Anand (2801) against Gelfand (2736), with 4...dxc4 and 5...a6, the line where Black holds the pawn and lives with the pressure on the long diagonal. The engine flags no turning point here — no decisive error, no missed chance. The accuracy figures tell the story their own way: 82% of at least good moves for White, 100% for Black. Black defends cleanly, yet White’s grip never loosens: after 17...Kxg7 the rooks pile onto the a-file (21.Ra6, 23.Rda1, 30.Ra8, 31.R1a7), queens come off with 34.Qxd7, and 35.Bb6 ends it, 1-0. The club lesson: accurate defence doesn’t always save you against steady accumulation.
