Budapest Gambit, 2015: Adhiban (2674) gives back the e5 pawn early, Ponkratov (2604) regains it, and the position opens fast. After 14.c5 dxc5 15.Qd5 White presses for the initiative, but 17.fxg4 Nxf4 and 18...Qxe3+ leave the white king exposed and the evaluation with Black. The turning point is stark: at move 21.Bc4, a missed opportunity, the evaluation swings from −1.0 to +5.8 from White’s side — a resource was there and went unplayed. Black answered 21...Qxa1+ and the game was over. Accuracy: White 90%, Black 86%. The takeaway: a high percentage does not shield you from one critical move, least of all with an airy king.
