2778 2020 · Black wins (resignation, time or agreement)
Nimzo-Larsen Attack, 2020: Vachier-Lagrave (2778) opens 1.Nf3 and 2.g3 against Nakamura (2736), who builds a solid centre before the position sharpens. Both sides finish on the same accuracy figure, 86%, yet the evaluation swings repeatedly. The first turn comes on move 23: 23...Nb5 shifts the assessment from +0.4 to -1.3 and hands White the initiative. White gives it back on move 36, where 36.Bxc5 is a missed win, moving the needle from +0.2 to -1.9. The long rook-and-knight ending keeps trading chances — 71.Ne4 (-0.7 to -2.6), then 71...Rg2+ returning most of it (+2.6 to +0.6), and finally 86.Ng3 (-1.4 to -3.2) before Black converts. The lesson: in long endings, one loose move decides the result.
